10 Visa Free Destinations for Indian Citizen

Be The First To Comment

Indian travellers may rule the declining rupee but there are other perks to being an Indian citizen. Holders of Indian passports have visa-free and visa-on-arrival access to about 52 countries and territories around the world. At least 28 of these nations allow Indian passport holders to visit without a

pre-issued visa.

In many cases, an Indian citizen's country of residence determines the degree of access to other countries. Indian citizens holding permanent resident (Green Card) status in the United States do not require visas to visit Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean islands. Indians of particular professions with a residency in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are exempt from visas to enter the United Arab Emirates. Indian citizens do not, similarly, need a visa to enter Nepal or Bhutan.

1. BHUTAN

Bhutan, the happiest little nation in the world, is among the most sought-after Himalayan destinations for tourists but the Himalayan mountain kingdom is very conservative when it comes to tourism. Travel writer Pico Iyer mentioned it in his book, Falling off the Map, as one of the world's remotest places. Until recently, Bhutan restricted tourist numbers. Though that has changed.

2. BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Most Indians need to look up the British Virgin Islands on a map. They lie in the Caribbean Sea, and include over 60 islands and keys, of which about 43 are uninhabited. Indian citizens are granted a 31-day visa-free stay in the British Virgin Islands for tourism purposes. One of the best ways to visit the islands is by cruise ship, as many cruises operate from the United States to the nearby US Virgin Islands. There are no direct flights between India and the British Virgin Islands.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 1,60,000 (via Paris and Saint Maarten)

3.COOK ISLANDS

The Cook Islands lie in Polynesia, off the coast of New Zealand. They are named after Captain James Cook, who discovered them for the western world in 1770. Since 1965, the islands have been self-governed with free association to the government of New Zealand, which controls the islands' defence,Rarotonga International Airport, the main port of entry to the Cook Islands, is connected to Auckland via daily flights and weekly flights from Sydney, Fiji and Los Angeles.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 1,60,000 (via Singapore and Auckland).

4. DOMINICA

Not to be confused with the Caribbean nation known as the Dominican Republic, the island of Dominica was the last of the Caribbean islands to be colonized by the British. It has beautiful hiking trails, rainforests and beaches with great opportunities for snorkelling. Indian citizens are allowed to stay for 22 months without a visa.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 2,00,000 (via Paris and Saint Maarten)

5. EL SALVADOR

El Salvador, the most densely populated country in Central America, lies between Guatemala and the Honduras. Volcanoes, mountains and cloud forests offer plenty of nature discovery and hiking opportunities. Old colonial towns and UNESCO World Heritage Sites beckon heritage tourists. Indian nationals are permitted to stay for a maximum of three months without a visa.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 1,44,000 (via Paris and Miami)

6. GRENADA

The beautiful Caribbean islands of Grenada offer much to tourists in the form of beaches, waterfalls, historic forts and spice gardens. Indian tourists can travel visa-free in Grenada for up to 90, but must show proof of sufficient funds to cover the cost of their travel.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 1.60,000 (via London and Miami).

7. HAITI

Haiti is off the travel map for most tourists owing to the devastation left by the 2010 earthquake. One of the poorest countries in the Western hemisphere, its current political situation and concerns over the safety of tourists has prompted many countries to issue strict travel advisories. That said, Indian tourists are welcome without a visa for a maximum stay of three months.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: INR 1,52,000 (via Dubai and New York)

8. JAMAICA

Jamaica is the most populous of the English-speaking Caribbean countries and its easygoing culture, cuisine and music, besides its many beaches, are attractive to tourists. Indian tourists can stay without a visa on producing a passport valid for six months and sufficient proof of funds and onward travel.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: 1,53,000 (via Dubai and New York/ Toronto)

9.MONTSERRAT

Not to be confused with the Spanish region of the same name, Montserrat is an island in the Caribbean southeast of Puerto Rico and once a popular resort. Since 1989, hurricanes and volcanic eruptions forced its closure but the island is slowly limping back. Indian citizens must show proof of citizenship but can travel visa-free on furnishing proof of onward travel and adequate funds.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: 1,30,000 (to Antigua, via London) and a 15-minute air-hop from Antigua to Montserrat (about INR 5,000)

10. MICRONESIA

The far-flung Federated States of Micronesia are a group of 607 islands in the Western Pacific Ocean, comprising the states of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. It is considered one of the most remote and beautiful places in the world, with pristine coral reefs, quaint cultures, exotic food and picturesque islands. Indian citizens can travel visa-free for 30 days upon producing proof of sufficient funds, onward travel and accommodation.

Approximate cost of round trip flight: 2,04,000 (via Hong Kong, Guam and Truk)

How To Make Computer Faster

Be The First To Comment
Increase the speed of your computer

Free up disk space

1.    Remove junk files

You don't even have to click a "Save" button once while using your computer to accumulate junk files. Simply checking emails, setting your computer to hibernate or surfing the web will build up junk files on your computer.

One way to clean them up and speed up your computer is to run the Windows inbuilt "Disk Cleanup" utility. To do that go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.

2.    Remove duplicate files

You may not realize how many duplicate files you have accumulated on your system! Even people who do relatively little file management and movement can still accumulate duplicate files. It is a painfully time consuming task to try to remove all of them manually.

Use a third party application like:

☻        Auslogics BoostSpeed

☻        Auslogics Duplicate File Finder

☻        Easy Duplicate Finder

☻        Duplicate Finder

3.    Uninstall unnecessary applications

Here is another tip on how to speed up your computer. It only takes a couple of months of computer use for unneeded programs to start stacking up.

To check over your list of installed programs and remove the ones you don't need, do the following:

☻        In Windows XP, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

☻        In Windows 7 and Vista, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features.

Defragmenting your hard drive

Defragmentation should be performed regularly to help speed up your computer. The defrag process unites scattered pieces of files to help you access them faster.

☻        Heavy users should defragment weekly.

☻        Moderate users should defragment fortnightly.

☻        Light users should defragment monthly.

You can use a Windows inbuilt utility as well as third-party applications for defragmenting disks. Third party applications are often faster and more user-friendly.

If you find the inbuilt tool frustrating to use, give one of these apps a shot:

☻        Auslogics BoostSpeed

☻        Auslogics Disk Defrag

☻        Defraggler

☻        MyDefrag

Repairing registry problems

It is possible to repair registry errors yourself if you are a very experienced computer user or have a know the exact origin of your problem and step-by-step instructions to fix it.

For most of us, though, a registry repair program that scans for problems and automatically fixes them is the best option to speed up your computer. Run these programs once a week, fortnight or month, just before you defrag your computer.

Here are some popular ones:

☻        CCleaner

☻        Auslogics BoostSpeed

☻        Registry Mechanic

Defragmenting the registry

There aren't any inbuilt Windows tools that defragment the registry - you'll need to use a third-part utility. Some programs (like Auslogics BoostSpeed) that offer registry repair will also defrag the registry, which will help speed up your computer.

Disabling auto-start applications

Many programs will set themselves to auto-start when you boot your computer, even though you might only use them once a month. These background applications can take up a lot of RAM. That's why disabling the auto-start option for programs you don’t need can do a lot to speed up your computer.

To check for unnecessary auto-start programs:

☻        Click Start. If you use XP, go to Run and type msconfig, if you use Vista simply type it in the search box in the Start menu.

☻        Go to the Startup tab.

☻        Uncheck any boxes for programs you don't use regularly. Note that you can still open these programs on request - they just won't auto-load on boot up.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can also go to the Startup folder under All Programs in the Start menu. If you see any programs in the list that you don’t need, simply right-click on them and choose to delete them from the list. Don't worry, they won't be uninstalled from your computer.

Here are some popular programs for helping speed up the process of disabling auto-start applications - it can be a bit intimidating:

☻        Auslogics BoostSpeed

☻        System Explorer

☻        Startup Select

Removing malware

Malware can also slow down your computer, running in the background and taking up system resources. To speed up your computer, install a good anti-malware product and set it to auto-update and run scheduled scans.

There are literally hundreds of good anti-malware programs available, however several stand out:

☻        Auslogics Antivirus

☻        Malwarebytes Anti-malware

☻        Spyware Doctor

ALWAYS use a trusted name when it comes to anti-malware software. There are hundreds of rogue anti-malware programs that will actually install malware on your computer.

Using ReadyBoost

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, there is an inbuilt utility to speed up your computer that allows you to use a USB flash drive or a memory card as additional computer memory.

☻        In Windows Vista, if the device is fast enough to work with the ReadyBoost feature, you will be asked when it loads if you want to use it for ReadyBoost. Tell the computer Yes, and the wizard will walk you through the process.

☻        In Windows 7, you can go to Start -> Computer and right-click on the drive you want to use for ReadyBoost. Click Properties, and go to the ReadyBoost tab. Here you can choose to allocate either the entire device, or part of the device for ReadyBoost, depending on what you need it for.

We've mentioned the third-party applications that are available for most of these "speed up my computer" tasks - and there are actually some software packages that have the capability to do all of these tasks, such as Auslogics BoostSpeed. Many have a free trial available for you to evaluate how well they work as well. There really is no reason to put up with a slow computer anymore!

Banksy sells art works for $60 in New York's Central Park

Be The First To Comment
Banksy sells art in New York's Central Park on Oct. 12, 2013. / BANKSY
Banksy, the elusive British graffiti artist who has taken up a month-long residency in New York, sold a few of his pieces on the cheap over the weekend.
And by cheap -- we mean $60 apiece. This is the same artist who has sold his art for thousands of dollars, sometimes hundreds of thousands.
Banksy revealed on his website that he had set up a table in New York City's Central Park on Saturday with original signed pieces. "Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each," he wrote. But they weren't there for long, apparently. "That stall will not be there again today," he wrote Sunday.
Banksy had an elderly man set up shop at the stall, and according to a video posted on the artist's website, it took about four hours before the man made his first sale. A sign read: "Spray Art. $60."
"A lady buys two small canvases for her children, but only after negotiating a 50% discount," Banksy wrote on the video; the New Zealand woman bought two signed Banksy pieces for $120.
Banksy, who hasn't revealed his real name, has been in New York over the past week or so, creating art on the streets of New York. The results have been showing up all over social media.
Banksy was behind the 2010 Oscar-nominated documentary, "Exit Through the Gift Shop."

'The Walking Dead' at New York Comic-Con: Michael Cudlitz signs on and other casting news

The Project: The Walking Dead
Panel: Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Greg Nicotero, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Steve Yuen, Lauren Cohan, Chad Coleman, Norman Reedus (armed with stuffed squirrels to throw to the audience), Gale Anne Hurd, and Dave Alpert
Footage screened: Producer Hurd introduced two never-before-seen clips from the fourth season — one at the start of the panel and one at the end. SPOILER ALERT! The first scene features Daryl (Reedus), Michonne (Gurira), and a new young male character armed but relaxing by an abandoned store in a former mall plaza. The newbie compliments Daryl, who is now part of the new council, and theorizes about Daryl’s former occupation prior to the Zombipocalypse. He guesses homicide cop, which amuses Michonne and Daryl — a rare moment of these two intense characters allowing themselves to laugh. The group is then met by Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Tyreese (Coleman), and newcomer Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) as they enter a store to take out the few remaining Walkers inside. But little do they know, the roof of the store is infested with Walkers spreading out from a crashed military helicopter.
The second sneak peek also stars Daryl and Michonne, this time in a car accompanied by Bob and Tyreese. As Daryl asks Michonne to put in a CD, they hear a faint voice coming from the radio. Daryl attempts to adjust the frequency to get a clearer signal but while doing so, almost hits a Walker in the road. Swerving away, Daryl dodges a scattering of Walkers that then turn into a herd. Before the crew can get rid of the infestation, they are surrounded by Walkers. This is no herd of ordinary Walkers — it’s the edge of a Walker army; hundreds are heading in their direction. Daryl quickly puts the car in reverse but a wheel gets stuck in a pile of fallen Walkers. Blood spatters and bones crush as the wheel cuts through the Walkers.
Snap judgment: The overwhelming fear of the Walkers is back — and it is good. After a third season featuring more human-on-human conflicts than human-on-undead confrontations, this season is a welcome return to the zombie portion of the Zombie Apocalypse.
Big revelations: Michael Cudlitz is “motherf—ing Abraham!” The Southland actor stormed up to the audience mic disguised as an angry fan, demanding showrunner Gimple include Sgt. Abraham Ford on the series. He then revealed his identity, in fully bearded and muscle-toned character. The producers also confirmed the casting of Christian Serratos (Twilight) as Rosita Espinosa and announced actor/comedian Josh McDermitt as Eugene, who, according to Nicotero, is sure to be “fully mulleted.”
Lincoln also teased a big moment for Rick’s son Carl (Chandler Riggs). “Chandler is going to kick ass. Wait for episode 9. There’s a spoiler. I don’t care. I’ve just said it,” said Lincoln. He later added that he was “so disturbed” and “shell-shocked” after reading the script for an episode later this season. ”I was trying to call everybody because I needed to speak to a human voice. We are going to get in so much trouble in this episode,” he said.
Latest Carol/Daryl and Richonne romance news: Moderator, Walking Dead super-fan, and Community co-star Yvette Nicole Brown shared that she is an unabashed Carol/Daryl shipper and is also excited by a possible Rick-Michonne romance. “You do know, Sarah Wayne Callies [who played Rick's wife Lori] will kick my ass if it happened in season four. Maybe after a couple more seasons,” said Lincoln. Reedus kept coy, quipping, “I’m practicing behind the scenes if you know what I’m talking about.”
Most incisive audience question: At first, one young male fan incurred boos from the panel after mentioning some fans’ dislike of Lori and Andrea. But he brought his question back around, asking about Carol’s development into a strong, female lead character. Gimble gave an insight into what we can expect from Carol. He said, “This season, we’ve seen her in the trailers teaching kids about knives. She had a daughter that died, and there’s a lot of kids in this prison now. She’s making sure that she herself is not a victim. She’s also making sure the kids aren’t victims.”

The Walking Dead returns tonight. And not only is it the first episode of season 4, but it will also mark the first episode of the Scott M. Gimple era. Gimple, a writer on the past two seasons of the AMC drama, replaces Glen Mazzara as showrunner. Mazzara, of course, himself replaced original showrunner Frank Darbaont. So there has been quite a bit of replacing going on. It’s kind of like a semi-famous Minneapolis punk band or a goofy Keanu Reeves movie.

It’s the question Norman Reedus gets asked more than any other: When is The Walking Dead‘s Daryl Dixon going to fall in love? Or at least get a little action? Most of the romantic talk surrounding Daryl also involves Carol, and not just because their names are so gosh darn similar. Both are somewhat damaged characters who have leaned on each other during tough times. Reedus told EW that Daryl will, in fact, have a love interest in season 4, but it’s not whom you might expect. It’s…well, we’ll let Norman explain.

'The Walking Dead': Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan promise 'more loving, less shoving' for Glenn and Maggie

Their relationship was a shining beacon of hope in an otherwise depressing-as-hell zombie apocalypse. But then Maggie was forced to strip by the Governor, and then Glenn totally acted like a jerk about it. Love on the rocks! But by the end of season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Glenn gave Maggie a ring and the lovebirds were singing once again. So how are things when the action picks up in season 4 (which premieres Oct. 13)? Stars Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan talked about the couple’s future while taking a break from their insanely hot EW photo shoot. “If we could envision a smooth ride for Maggie and Glenn this season, I think it would involve less walkers and a honeymoon,” says Cohan. “But mostly I think they’re just glad to still be alive and have each other. There was a pact they made at the end of season 3 that is going to be really interesting this season.”

34% of Millennials Watch More Online Video Than TV

Be The First To Comment

A new survey by The New York Times shows that broadcast TV viewership appears to be waning generationally.
The study, released to Mashable, reports that roughly one in three Millennials watches less TV than online videos, or no TV at all. At the same time, 50% of surveyed 18- to 34-year-olds report watching video online at least once a day.
34% of surveyed millennials reported watching mostly online video or no broadcast TV, as opposed to equal amounts of TV and online video or only TV. Only 20% of Generation Xers and 10% of Baby Boomers reported the same preference for online videos.
Another blow for broadcast: 25% of online video viewers are watching less TV than they were a year ago, the survey reports.
When asked why they're watching more online video, 56% of Millennials said they could access what they wanted immediately, while 49% said they like being able to watch multiple episodes online. Another 44% said mobile devices allow video viewing in places and at times they can't with traditional TV.
The study also showed an increase in online video viewership. Of people who watch videos online, 84% reported watching the same amount or more than they did last year.
The study shows that online video viewers make online watching a habit. Fifty percent of Millennials who watch online videos said they did so at least once a day, and 89% reported watching online video at least weekly. 45% of Generation X and 36% of Boomer online video watchers tune in one or more times a day.

While watching online video seems to be a growing pasttime, there are still reasons some prefer more traditional television. The top reasons people watch TV: The screen size is better, it's more comfortable and it's better to watch with a group.
Watching online video also has its perks. When asked for reasons they watch, online video viewers cited immediate access, a customized experience and the ability to share with others.

The Times presented the research at the International News Media Association's Audience Summit in Las Vegas Thursday.
